These book quilts began as a challenge at our annual retreat on the Mendocino Coast. Several months before our February, 2003 retreat, each of us selected a book that was important in our pre-adolescent or adolescent years. We designed our own book covers, and worked on them at the retreat. The size was set at 32" by 50", with borders of pieced blocks at the top and bottom. We strived to use blocks that complemented the theme of the book. Ten of these quilts were entered in the AQS Ultimate Guild Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee in late summer 2003 and won 1st Place. They have been shown at the Santa Cruz Public Library and the Ukiah Library, and were a special exhibit at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in September 2004 and will be a featured exhibit at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, California in October, 2004. In 2006 they will be exhibited at the San Francisco Public Library and the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. Please contact us if you would like to exhibit these award winning book quilts.
